Strategic Planning That Powers Sustainable School Improvement

Strategic Planning That Powers Sustainable School Improvement

Leverage integrated data systems and expert services to drive lasting change.

The most effective and efficient approach to School/District improvement is through the use of strategic planning that focuses on a systemic model. This allows the gathering of all relevant data to create a baseline or starting point. This data is then turned into information that is shared with all stakeholders.

Strategic Planning Process

The process involves setting goals, defining actions to achieve them, and mobilizing resources, typically through a cyclical process of diagnosis, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reflection, with a focus on continuous improvement. Educational Vistas offers a comprehensive suite of both software systems and educational services that encompass all School/District needs.

A Holistic Approach

Our team works with keys district leaders to determine the exit outcomes or goals of the project. We believe that this is the critical first step as Dr. Crowder is famous for saying: “If you don’t know where you’re going, then any road will take you there!”. We then use our advanced tools to connect to all required databases in the district to pull all data elements into a data warehouse with dashboard views for all departments.

The starting point or baseline identifies strengths and challenges that must be considered when creating the action plans to accomplish the goals. This analysis highlights the resources needed for success and then allows for timelines to be developed. Reports and dashboard views are updated in real-time to show progress and opportunities for realignment as required. The concept of cyclical and ongoing measurement against the goals builds continuous improvement into all aspects of the project.

The Assessment Dynamic

A key component in most if not all effective strategic plans is the creation and use of high-quality assessments. These tests must be developmentally-appropriate, embedded in the curriculum, and valid and reliable. Items must be linked to State standards, and delivered in a manner consistent with state platform formats. Student results inform both instructional modifications and academic safety net programs.

Integration is the Key to Success

With over 32 years of project management success, Educational Vistas brings our unique suite of management systems and imbedded services that use your data to build a custom integrated platform that all stakeholders may access. Information flows from all departments and academic areas to display progress monitoring, resource allocation, implementation successes, and reflection points throughout the project.

Curriculum Strategic Alignment Services

Organizing Curriculum for Instructional Delivery

A major, continuous task for educators is organizing and maintaining a current curriculum at both the district and school levels. Aside from the safety and welfare of students and staff, curriculum is the most important educational function. It informs the integration of teaching, learning, assessment, and State learning standards. It is the foundation upon which learning is based.

Key Questions Regarding the Current Status of your Curriculum

  • Is it systemic?
  • Is it articulated at key end-points (Grades 12, 8, 6, and 4)?
  • Is it aligned vertically and horizontally?
  • How does its structure support development and refinement?
  • Does it effectively inform all staff and the public?
  • Is it computerized/digitized?

Curriculum Developer

Curriculum Development

Curriculum Developer is an integrated, digital platform designed to support staff in developing, organizing, and delivering instruction. It includes a curriculum mapping phase and an instructional unit refinement phase. All elements of curriculum planning—such as alignment with State learning standards—are built into the system. Easy access enables staff to keep curriculum current through collaborative, grade-level team planning. Staff in both prior and subsequent grades may reference the curriculum at any time to strengthen its effectiveness and articulation.

Supporting Curriculum Work Using Curriculum Developer

When assisting districts with curriculum planning and refinement, the team at Educational Vistas begins with a guiding principle: Don’t throw out the baby with the bath water! In other words, they respect and build upon curriculum work already completed and identify opportunities for alignment using the curriculum status questions above. Professional development plays a key role, providing guidance, examples, and hands-on support while staff work within Curriculum Developer. Instructional unit development with estimated timelines helps establish a performance-based flow and effective pacing of student learning.
